The 2nd WPC Youth Forum
For several years the World Petroleum Council (WPC) has been committed to supporting young professionals under the age of 35 in their career paths. This focus has led to creation of a Youth Committee gathering representatives of 17 countries and the organisation of the first Youth Forum in Beijing in 2004. In view of its success and the strategic importance of such events, the WPC has decided to host a youth Forum between each World Petroleum Congress held every three years (Madrid 2008, Doha 2011…). The next Youth Forum entitled “Energise Your Future” will therefore take place in Paris in 2009, organised for the WPC by the French National Committee.
The need for new skills and talent over the coming years and the opportunities in the energy sector are huge. Competition from others sectors has never been fiercer, particularly for the under 35 year olds. To compete effectively in this race for talent, the energy sector needs to promote its image and the broad range of opportunities open to young people across its many sectors: oil, gas, biomass, new energies, oil related industries…
“Energise Your Future” is a unique initiative organised by young professionals for existing and future young industry players. It will be a highly participative forum relying on state-of-the-art communications tools to allow young people from across the world to debate the major issues facing the energy industry in the coming years with their peers but also with representatives of the academic world, industry experts and current leaders.
The Milestone Event in Paris will gather over 1,000 people for 3 days to engage in strategic forward-thinking to grow understanding of how the industry is evolving, the opportunities it offers and what role different players need to play.
The audience will break down into four categories:
- Young professionals under 35
- Final Year Students from relevant Universities
- Representatives of the Academic world committed to building understanding of current and future training and educational needs
- High level guest speakers able to provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector
Energise Your Future already has the support of leading multinationals such as Total, Schlumberger, and GDF SUEZ with other players soon to confirm their support.
